In 2009, Representative Ken Esquibel was recognized from over 7,000 state legislators for his work in the area of cancer legislation. This distinguished award was presented by the national collaborative C-Change, Co-Chaired by President George H. W. and Barbara Bush. The Exemplary Leadership by an Elected Official of the year award shows Representative Ken Esquibel’s passion and dedication towards his work in the Wyoming State Legislature.

In the 2006 election 25% of the House of Representatives were freshman legislators. Ken Esquibel had more bills passed and signed into law by Governor Freduenthal than any of those other 14 freshman Representatives. Ken was also the only freshman Representative to have legislation pass as primary sponsor in both the general and the budget sessions.

With Wyoming's National Guard experiencing their largest deployment in our state's history, Ken Esquibel sponsored legislation to expand the Military Tuition Assistance program. Now with modern technology through distance education, no matter where they are deployed, Wyoming's National Guard have the opportunity to continue working on their bachelor's degrees.

We need more highway patrol troopers!

Ken sponsored legislation to add more highway patrolmen to the supplemental budget. In February of 2008, sixteen more patrolmen were commissioned to the force. Ken intends to continue this trend, so that our highways are safe and patrolled 24 hours a day.

We need to keep our children safe!

Ken sponsored legislation to include obscene or lewd images through electronic means, such as the internet or cell phone text messaging to out stalking law. House bill #137 Electronic Stalking, passed the legislature and was signed into Law on July 2007.

We need to create jobs that keep our children working in Wyoming!

Ken sponsored legislation that gave the Board of Speech Pathology, the authority to provide new graduates in this fields a provisional license. Now with the passage and signing of House Bill #98, we are competitive with surrounding states, and these graduates are able to assist more children in developmental preschools, such as Stride Learning Center here in Cheyenne!

Ken co-sponsored legislation to provide up to 500 more slots within the Wyoming Health Insurance Pool giving people with pre-existing conditions the opportunity to purchase healthcare insurance plans through the state. Senate File #115 passed the legislature and was signed into Law on July1, 2007.

We need to cut down the number of people who try and take advantage of the system!

Ken so-sponsored legislation to add fraud amendments to the Unemployment Insurance Division to allow the department more times to recoup funds obtained illegally. House Bill #75 passed the legislature and signed into Law on July 1, 2007.

We need to provide the firefighters and EMT's who are injured on the job, tuition assistance for their dependents.
What Ken Esquibel Accomplished

In the 2008 budget session Ken co-sponsored legislation with Representative Tom Walsh (Republican) to provide tuition assistance for dependents of Emergency Medical Technicians and Firefighters who are killed or become disabled while in the line of duty. house prior to the 2008 budget session due to deteriorating condition in his health, and Ken along with four other Representatives carried the Bill forward for him.
